Eighteen feet below the surface of the Earth lied the World’s Largest Uncut Diamond. That was until 1905 when it was discovered in Pretoria, South Africa. Before being cut, it was 3,106-carats!
The diamond, nicknamed the ‘Cullinan’, was cut into nine large stones and about 100 small stones. The largest cut stone, known as ‘First Star of Africa’ or ‘Cullinan I’, is 530 carats. This diamond was the largest cut fine quality colorless diamond in the world until the ‘Golden Jubilee Diamond’ was discovered in 1985. The Golden Jubilee Diamond is a whopping 545.67-carats!
